Everglades - Half The Thrill

Every now and then a band comes along that make you want to sit up and take notice. Everglades have just released a single that within the first minute an impossible to ignore hook is forever etched into your memory.

Everglades is a 5 piece based in Barnsley, originally formed by frontman Joe Proudley, guitarist Myles Labhaya and drummer Evan Langdale, then after a few personnel changes they were joined by Kian Thomson on bass and Henry Groves on guitar and keys. Performing as the new line-up at the Oporto in Leeds back in May last year as support to Pennine Suite the band released their debut track ‘Stone’ last August. Previously used as an opening track on the live set list, ‘Half The Thrill’ is more energised track, a beast of a banger.

From the start on ‘Half The thrill’ there’s a contagiousness to the guitars that’s difficult to resist. The firmly strung riffs setting the tone for the whole track all perfectly married with the rock solid drumming of Evan Langdale. The striking instrumental backdrop is complemented by Joe Proudley’s morose vocals, reminding me a little of Grian Chatten from Fontaines DC . With reference to their lyrics, there’s no half measures given here, this is a band who will, hopefully, gain momentum from this and take them on a journey across the UK.
